Marion Oneal was a Montana writer, teacher, and homesteader. Collection consists of correspondence (1916-1962); copies of published articles and poems (1910-1960) reflecting her experiences teaching and homesteading at Big Breezes and farming near Libby; and an unpublished article on the town of Bannack.

Abstract

Martha Plassmann (1850-1936) was a Montana pioneer, historian, and journalist. Collection consists of her autobiography and over 500 historical articles written for the Great Falls Tribune and the Montana News Association during the 1920s and 1930s. The articles, based on her own memories and on research, cover a wide range of topics, especially fur trappers, explorers, and vigilantes.

Abstract Jeannette Rankin, 1880-1973, was the first woman elected to the U.S. Congress. She served two nonconsecutive terms in the House of Representatives: 1917-1919 and 1941-1943. Rankin was a suffragist, pacifist, and progressive social reformer. As congresswoman she voted against declaration of both world wars. Adelaide Reeder was a Helena, Montana, teacher and suffragist. This collection (1882-1902) consists of general correspondence, miscellany, and two scrapbooks of clippings, one dealing with her own life; and one consisting of articles written by her brother-in-law P.W. Reeder concerning prohibition, foreign travels, crossing the plains, the California gold rush, and the annexation of Hawaii.

Irma Reeder was a Big Sandy, Montana, schoolteacher. She later moved to Livingston where she owned and operated a motel. This collection consists of 13 of her diaries (1927-1963). There are also a diary (1930-1932) kept by S. Eugene Reeder while in Russia as a tractor expert; a letters; cards; programs; and clippings.

John Shober (1832-1925) was a Helena, Montana, miner, attorney, and state legislator. Collection (1832-1952) includes descriptions of frontier social and mining conditions. Included are subgroups for Shober's nephew John H. Shober, Jr., manager of a ranch near Townsend; and of his niece Harriet Shober Nolan, wife of Cornelius B. Nolan.
