Abstract

Thomas H. Irvine (1845-1926) was sheriff of Custer and Ravalli counties and U.S. deputy marshal. Papers (1879-1926) include correspondence, personal diaries, lists of wanted criminals, court papers, and account books. There are also several reminiscences on "Big Nose George" Parrott, the Battle of the Little Big Horn, the Kansas Jayhawkers, and Irvine's journey across the plains (1864)

Content Description This small collection contains the materials collected by Arthur Kamhoot and his family. It concerns the Custer Freight Road, a now abandoned road constructed by the US Army in 1877 after the Battle of Little Bighorn. The road ran from Fort Keogh at Miles City to Fort Custer near Hardine, MT. Abstract

D.J. O'Malley (1867-1943) was a cowboy for the N Bar N Ranch, the Montana Cattle Company's 79 Ranch, and other cattle ranches around Montana. His papers consist primarily of cowboy poetry and other writings reflecting his experiences as a cowboy; a small amount of correspondence (1887-1939); and miscellany, including a few items concerning his father Dominick O'Malley's Civil War military career.

Content Description 83 black and white photographic prints with views of two women and two men traveling through Montana by train as well additional travel photos of the Northwest United States and parts of Canada. Photographs collected by Rosa "Belle" St. Martin (later Bowman) of Minneapolis, Minnesota and removed from an album prior to donation.
