This collection is a sub-subgroup (former Council) of the Montana Department of Community Affairs records, RS 505. The director of the Department of Intergovernmental Relations (later named Community Affairs) formed the Montana Poverty Council in 1973. Please see the primary finding aid for more Montana Department of Community Affairs records.

This collection is composed of six series: general correspondence (1973-1975); legal documents (n.d.); minutes (1973-1978); organization (1973-1977); printed material; and subject files (1978). The general correspondence includes some minutes of the Montana United Indian Association as enclosures.
