Biographical / Historical

The director of the Department of Intergovernmental Relations formed the Montana Poverty Advisory Council in 1973, appointing eleven members representing the Montana State Low-Income Organization, the Montana United Indian Association, the Montana Migrant Council, the Mexican-American Council of Montana, the Montana State Welfare Rights Organization, and the Montana Inter-Tribal Policy Board. The Council was intended to "review all proposed grants and existing programs that pertain to the problems of the poor in Montana and to provide input into the establishment of state governmental goals for alleviating poverty."
