Content Description
California Mining Company records (1893) consists of a letter from CA Mining Co (Castle, MT) secretary N.E. Benson addressed to T.P. Bowman, banker in Helena, MT informing his Mr. Benson will pay the banker the money he owed him, but it will be in the future, not the present. Letter offers some insight into silver mining operations following the Panic of 1893 and the continued depreciation in the value of silver during the time.

Biographical / Historical
The California Mining Company was established in Castle, MT in 1890. F. L. Hensley served as president, N. E. Benson as secretary, J. E. Hensly, E. T. Bowen, I. M. Hensley served also as trustees. Benson left Castle sometime between 1893 and 1896. He appears in the Anaconda city directory in 1896 working as a smelterman.
