J.H. McKnight and Company records
John R. Lucas Papers
John Lucas was mine superintendent of the Granite-BiMetallic Consolidated Mining Company and other mining operations in the Philipsburg, Montana, area. Papers (1903-1916) include general correspondence with Paul A. Fusz, Charles D. McLure, and others about the operation of the mines. There are also materials on the Montana Democratic Party and the United Confederate Veterans.
Martin and Louise Maginnis papers
Martin Maginnis (1841-1919) was a Democratic Montana Territorial Delegate to Congress from 1872 to 1882; a member of the 1889 Montana Constitutional Convention; and newspaper publisher. Papers (1864-1912) consist primarily of incoming correspondence concerning politics; and outgoing correspondence, court papers, legal documents, and a scrapbook. Incoming correspondence includes typescript copies.
Montana Adjutant General's Office Records
Records of the Montana Adjutant General's Office consist of military roll books (1912-1915) listing citizens subject to military duty in Blaine, Dawson, Flathead, Gallatin, Jefferson, Meagher, Musselshell, Park, Richland, Sheridan, and Valley counties.
Montana Council Of Defense Records
The Montana Council of Defense was established during World War I to coordinate county war efforts. It also investigated cases of alleged disloyal activities. Records (1916-1921) include minutes, correspondence, subject files, testimony and exhibits for hearings and special investigations, membership lists, and correspondence of various county councils of defense.
Montana Volunteers Records
The Montana Volunteers was a volunteer military organization, primarily cavalry, formed by Executive directive to combat perceived Indian threats in the Territory. These records (1867-1868) consist of correspondence, financial records, reports, and miscellany, largely for the District of Helena.

Ralph A. Saylor papers
Ralph A. Saylor papers (1939-1950, bulk dates 1941-1946) Documents and photographs related to WWII Navy service of Ralph A. Saylor who served as a torpedoman for the US Navy. Includes official military documents, torpedo school notes, published articles and printed memorabilia. Also includes photographs captured by Ralph and his brothers, Walter Saylor and Harold Saylor. Both Walter and Harold served in the US Navy during WWII as well.
Gotfried I. Reiche papers
Gotfried Reiche (1848-1940) served as a drummer boy in the Civil War. In 1916 he was elected commander of the Montana Department of the Grand Army of the Republic, and in 1933 custodian of its records. He was appointed to the Board of Managers of the Montana Soldier's Home in 1932. This collection (1894-1953) consists of incoming correspondence, financial records, clippings, and miscellany of Gotfried I. Reiche and his wife Lena Reiche.
Stahl family papers
This collection contains materials relating to German-immigrant Charles K. Stahl and his family. Charles K. Stahl immigrated to Montana in 1908 where he married Edith May Gile. They had five children: Charles W. Stahl (1914-1981), Cecelia Long (1918-2006), Philip E. Stahl (1919-2006), Patrick H. Stahl (1921-1999), and Virginia Rauser (1928-2005). Collection includes correspondence (1907-1951) and ephemera (1905-1942). Some of the correspondence is in German.
