This collection consists of Montana Department of Institutions records from the Pine Hills Correctional Facility (Miles City), State Vocational School for Girls (Helena), the Swan River Youth Forest Camp, the Women's Correctional Center (Warm Springs), and a digitized scrapbook of newspaper clippings related to Montana Department of Institutions.
Montana State Prison records
This collection consists of records of the Montana State Prison (1869-1974), the Board of Pardons (1890-1965), the Board of Prison Commissioners (1890-1962), and the United States Penitentiary, Montana Territory, including materials such as prisoner description sheets, prisoner receipt and discharge registers, minutes, etc.
William Fletcher Wheeler papers
William Wheeler (1824-1894) served as U.S. Marshal and as Montana Historical Society Librarian in Helena, Montana. Papers consist of outgoing correspondence (1859-1860, 1869-1871), including discussion of problems of Montana Territorial law enforcement; and biographical writings on Montana pioneers.
