These records (1984-1985) of the Madison County Clerk of District Court consist of exhibits submitted in the trials of Donald Nichols and his son Dan Nichols, who were charged with kidnaping Kari Swanson and murdering Alan Goldstein near Big Sky in 1984. The exhibits consist of photographs, drawings, newspaper and magazine articles, and transcripts of radio and television announcements. [OVERSIZE: BOX 1]

The Montana Council of Defense was established during World War I to coordinate county war efforts. It also investigated cases of alleged disloyal activities. Records (1916-1921) include minutes, correspondence, subject files, testimony and exhibits for hearings and special investigations, membership lists, and correspondence of various county councils of defense.

The Women's Helena for the Capital Club was a Helena, Montana, based organization promoting the establishment of Helena as the state capital of Montana. Records (1894) include incoming correspondence; county lists; a record book containing correspondence, financial reports, speeches, resolutions, clippings, and broadsides; and miscellany.
