Mattie T. Cramer Papers

Abstract

This collection consists of correspondence (1894-1958), diaries (1888, 1895-1896), writings (undated), and miscellaneous financial records (1916, 1938-1946) of Mattie T. (Mathers) Cramer, a pioneer homesteader and newspaperwoman from Malta, Montana. The bulk of her papers consist of editorial and feature articles (undated) written for publication, and approximately 160 letters (1913-1915) written to her from all over the United States, requesting information on homesteading in Montana.

Edmund Craney was a pioneer in Montana radio broadcasting. He was affiliated with Pacific Northwest Broadcasting; XL radio stations of Spokane, Portland, Butte, Bozeman, and Missoula; and the Z Bar network. This collection (1920-1970) consists of correspondence, financial records, subject files, printed materials, yearbooks, clippings, and legal documents.

Cross served as chair of the Natural Resources and Agriculture Committee at the Convention—the only woman to chair an Article Committee.
