Hussey, Dahler and Company records

Abstract

Hussey, Dahler and Company was a Salt Lake City, Utah-based bank with branches in Helena and Virginia City, Montana Territory. Records consist of incoming correspondence (1866-1873, 1876) to both the Helena and Virginia City offices dealing with banking transactions, gold trading, and other matters. There are also minor financial items.

I.B. Mining Company records

Abstract

The I.B. Mining Company, located at Bannack, Montana, was a gold mining operation incorporated in 1929 by I.B. Haviland, Carl Becker, and C.W. Stalling. In 1931 the company began quartz mining of low-grade gold ore. Collection includes incoming, outgoing, and interoffice correspondence (1929-1933) relating to the operation of the company; plus lesser amounts of financial records, organizational records, etc. The company went bankrupt in 1933.

International Hotel records

Abstract

The International Hotel was built in Helena, Montana Territory, in 1868 by Judge J.B. Stuart. The hotel had a succession of owners, starting with G. Jules Germain, until it closed in 1922. Records consist of thirteen guest registers (1868-1895) and a cash book (1881-1884).

Thomas H. Irvine Papers

Abstract

Thomas H. Irvine (1845-1926) was sheriff of Custer and Ravalli counties and U.S. deputy marshal. Papers (1879-1926) include correspondence, personal diaries, lists of wanted criminals, court papers, and account books. There are also several reminiscences on "Big Nose George" Parrott, the Battle of the Little Big Horn, the Kansas Jayhawkers, and Irvine's journey across the plains (1864)

Abstract

J. Hugo Aronson was governor of Montana (1953-1961) and served in Montana House of Representatives (1938-1944) and the Montana State Senate (1944-1952). The bulk of the collection consists of campaign/political materials, correspondence, speeches, press releases, subject files, reports, and scrapbooks concerning his two terms as governor. The collection also contains J. Hugo Aronson’s business and personal papers including financial documents, correspondence and subject material.

Arnold W. Jacobsen papers

Abstract Arnold Jacobsen opened the Baby Bunting Shop in Butte, Montana, in 1935. By 1947 he and his wife Lois Jacobsen had seven stores in three states. In 1951 they sold the stores and opened the Win-a-Kee resort on Whitefish Lake. Jacobsen served as a delegate to the 1972 Montana Constitutional Convention and was a member of the Flathead County Park Board. James S. Dunn and Company was a commission merchant house in Helena, Montana Territory, handling fish, game, poultry, fruits, and produce. The store also operated under the name of Thomas C. Patrick and Company (prior to February 1888) and Jackson, Dunn and Company (from February to November 1888). Collection (1887-1889) includes correspondence; financial records, including ledgers, invoices, cash books, day books; legal documents; and miscellany.

Abstract J.H. McKnight and Company operated as the post trader at Fort Shaw, Montana Territory, from 1870 to 1887. In 1887 Joseph McKnight moved his business to Great Falls, where it became a general mercantile firm. In 1894 the name was changed to J.H. McKnight Company, and it continued to operate under that name after McKnight's death in 1903 until its charter expired in 1914.
