Abstract James H. Bradley was a first lieutenant in the 7th Infantry Regiment, stationed at Fort Shaw and Fort Benton, Montana Territory. Bradley was an amateur historian who wrote about the history of Montana and the Northwest, and his own military career. He was killed at the Battle of the Big Hole, August 9, 1877. Abstract

James Brisbin, a Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, native, served as an Army officer in the Civil War and the Indian Wars, 1868-1891. He was stationed at Fort Ellis, Fort Assiniboine, Fort Custer, Montana Territory, and many other western forts. Brisbin was also a writer and publicist. The collection contains a small amount of correspondence (1860-1890), and writings (1850-1891) concerning the Army, the Indian Wars, the West, and Montana Territory.

Abstract Cornelius Hedges (1831-1907) was a pioneer, miner and attorney who lived in Helena, Montana. Martha Plassmann (1850-1936) was a Montana pioneer, historian, and journalist. Collection consists of her autobiography and over 500 historical articles written for the Great Falls Tribune and the Montana News Association during the 1920s and 1930s. The articles, based on her own memories and on research, cover a wide range of topics, especially fur trappers, explorers, and vigilantes.

These U.S. Federal Power Commission records consist of hearing materials in a case involving the failure of the Montana Power Company to apply for a license to operate its hydroelectric dams on the Missouri River and tributaries. Exhibits in the case (including steamboat logs, diaries, articles, clippings, etc.) sought to document whether the Missouri River was navigable above Fort Benton. [FPC Docket #IT-5840.]
