Martha Edgerton Plassmann papers
Martha Plassmann (1850-1936) was a Montana pioneer, historian, and journalist. Collection consists of her autobiography and over 500 historical articles written for the Great Falls Tribune and the Montana News Association during the 1920s and 1930s. The articles, based on her own memories and on research, cover a wide range of topics, especially fur trappers, explorers, and vigilantes.
Poad family papers
Poad Family papers (1870-1884) The collection consists of correspondence, mostly between Elijah and Elisha from 1870 to 1874. Miscellaneous correspondence from other Poad family members and friends up to 1884 are also included. Most letters discuss mining, including descriptions of mines in the Helena area, California, and Wisconsin. Other topics include weather, family news, and local gossip.
Pony Mining District collection
Artificial collection consisting of various mining documents linked to the Mammoth mining district in Mammoth MT (now Pony MT). 5 maps, 2 ledgers, reports, claims, expense, etc, plus 23 documents covering the mining operations of various mines ran by various individuals in the southern Montana mining area of Mammoth, later renamed Pony.
Portland Cattle Loan Co. records
Chattel Mortgage documents, loan documents, and receipts between Portland Cattle Loan Company and Montana ranchers in the preceding years to the US involvement in WWI. These Chattel Mortgages detail the tremendous growth of financing for ranches on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, the Big hole Basin, Helena Valley and other areas of Montana as shortages in European food supply accelerated the need for increased beef production from Western stock producers. (1912-1917)
Powder River Land and Cattle Company Records
The Powder River Land and Cattle Company, incorporated by John T. Murphy, A.L. Smith, and John Tucker, operated ranches in Carter and Custer counties. Collection includes interoffice correspondence (1922-1923, 1935); incoming correspondence (1935); financial records including cattle sales records (1916-1935), monthly trial balances (1919-1935), payroll (1926-1935), etc.; and organizational records, including articles of incorporation, bylaws, and minutes (1911-1943).
Charles Benton Power papers
Charles Power (1868-1953) was a Helena, Montana, attorney and businessman, and son of Thomas C. Power. Collection (bulk, 1870s-1950s) includes incoming correspondence (1881-1953), diaries (1929-1949), subject files, and miscellany. There are also subgroups for family members and for several businesses of Power's.
