Biographical Note
Captain Candice Griffith, commanding officer of the 230th Engineers, a sub-unit of the Hamilton-based Montana National Guard 49th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, was deployed with her unit to Afghanistan in January 2010 to fight the war in Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom). Capt. Griffith had found sending and receiving letters to people back in the United States has helped her get through her first deployment in 2004 and decided to continue the practice for her 2010 deployment. Working through the Program AdoptaPlatoon, Capt. Griffith conected with people from across the U.S. She also recieved letters from children and members of her church in Missoula.
