Biographical / Historical
On April 30, 1900, the Butte Retail Clerks Protective Union No. 12 protested in front of the Hennessy Company, the largest department store in Butte, Montana, regarding their early closing and terminations of their employees without fair compensation. A significant number of people attended the demonstration, yelling "scab" at patrons and employees when they exited the building. The protest ended in several arrests and an investiagtion of an alleged... beating by a police officer.
