Materials consist of correspondence collected by Gayle Hageman. The correspondence (1953-1957) is entirely composed of incoming letters from Hageman's friend, Rosalie Mae "Rosie" Carlson. Topics include social life in the towns of Klein and Broadview, women's basketball, 4-H clubs, the closure of the high school in Klein, and transferring to Roundup, MT.

Biographical Note

Rosalie Mae Carlson (1939-) was born in Musselshell County, Montana, on January 27th, 1939, to Charles and Mildred Carlson. Active in 4-H and essay writing contests throughout her career as a student, Carlson graduated from Roundup high school on May 28, 1957. The following month, Carlson married James H. Downey in Billings, MT. Rosalie's close friend, Gayle Hageman (1940-), was born on January 17th, 1940, in Billings, MT, to Alvin and Evelyn Hageman. While Carlson and her family lived Roundup, MT, the Hageman family lived in Klein, MT. Like Carlson, Hageman was also very active in 4-H and other extracurricular activities throughout her career as a student. Carlson sent Hageman letters detailing her experiences as a student, as a member of 4-H, and her interests in women’s sports. These letters, which Hageman had retained and collected throughout her time as a student, also described the social life in Klein, MT, and Roundup, MT.
