Summary

In this interview John Ellingsen, long-time employee of Bovey Restorations and Bovey family friend, discusses the history of Charlie and Sue Bovey during the 1930s and 1940s. He specifically discusses Charles C. Bovey's work to consolidate his miiling operations (from which was born General Mills); establishing himself without family monies through his ranch; starting his horse-drawn vehicle collection as a young man; acquiring and moving the Sullivan Saddlery building in Fort Benton in 1939 to the Livestock Pavillion (later Old Town Building)in Great Falls; building Old Town; Bovey's race for state legislature in 1942; living in the Placer Hotel in Helena during session; the Historic Landmarks Society of Montana; establishing the "Old Town Promoter" newspaper; Charlie's efforts to save Virginia City buildings beginning in 1944; purchasing the Henry Blake House; redoing the Montana Post building; start of Bovey Restorations Inc.; start of the Fairweather Inn, Wells Fargo Coffee House, and the Bale of Hay Saloon; and the beginnings of the Virginia City Players.
