Scope and Contents
The Montana Department of Commerce, Film Office Records consist of records relating to the Film Office in general and the Film and Television Advisory Council. Some of the records document the office’s involvement in the Association of Film Commissioners International. There are also a myriad of subject files which include information about the budget of the office and the Montana Film Commission party held in 1974 to promote Montana as a shooting location for the film industry. There are also documents related to strategic planning for the office and the Film and Television Advisory Council, these plans included marketing strategies for the film industry in Montana. In addition there are reports on the activities of the Council and subject files related to the Council.
Materials include meeting minutes, notes, reports, meeting agendas, strategic plans, resource materials which include informational packets about the film industry, correspondence, lists, prepared speeches, and printed materials.

Biographical / Historical
Part of the Montana Department of Commerce, the Film Office was originally established in 1974 as a central information source for on-location filmmakers, and has remained committed to serving the production industry and serving the citizens of Montana. The primary role of the office is three fold: To promote the state of Montana as a filming location to the Film/TV/Print industries and invite these productions into Montana for the overall economic benefit of the state; Once a production has come into our state, assist producers to find locations that fit their script, as well as act as their liaison through every phase of production; To nurture and support the development of our resident crew base, as well as our resident filmmakers.

This collection consists of records relating to the Film Office, primarily the Film and Television Advisory Council. There are also records related to the Montana Film Commission party held in 1974 to promote Montana as a shooting location for the film industry. Materials include meeting minutes, notes, reports, meeting agendas, strategic plans, resource materials which include informational packets about the film industry, correspondence, lists, prepared speeches, and printed materials.
