Biographical / Historical
The Montana Board of Architectural Examiners was established by the Legislative Assembly in 1917 to license all architects wishing to practice in the state. The Board was appointed by the Governor, with the consent of the Senate, and consisted of three architects who had practiced for three consecutive years and had been a resident of the state for at least three years. Each member served a four year term until 1973, when the term length was changed to three years. The Board was charged with keeping a register of all applications for licenses, including whether or not the license was issued. The Board operated as an independent entity until 1971, when it was placed administratively under the newly formed Department of Professional and Occupational Licensing.
