Louis Boedecker photograph collection
Content Description
13 black and white photographic prints with views of former Montana State Prison Warden Louis Boedecker as well as his collection of autographed portraits. Louis Boedecker was appointed by Montana Governor Frank Cooney to create and head the new Highway Patrol program in the 1930s. The collection includes: two views of Boedecker with other police and highway patrol chiefs in the Northwest; one view of Boedecker possibly campaigning in Butte, photo by C. Owen Smithers; and one photograph of Lou Boedecker at the Wardens Conference in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1951. Also, three photographs of Los Angeles County Sheriff Eugene Biscailuz, who also organized the California Highway Patrol. Finally, there are six signed portraits from Boedecker's personal collection: Ed McGivern, California Highway Patrol Chief E. Raymond Cato, Senator James E. Murray, United States Vice President Alben W. Barkley, Billie Gimmell, and Montana Governor Roy E. Ayers.
