Biographical / Historical

E.C. Mulroney was the 11th of 12 children born to John Martin and Mary Jane Evans Mulroney. He attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana and graduated from the University of Michigan with a law degree in 1900. He was a private in Company G, Fifty–second Iowa Infantry in the Spanish American War. He came to Missoula in October 1900 where he set up his law practice and continued in the practice of law for the next 69 years. He married Mary Camilla O'Leary April 28, 1909 at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge. They had one stillborn son in 1910 and a second son, Thomas Edward Mulroney, born in 1914. In 1905 he served in the ninth Montana Legislature and was Missoula County Attorney from 1909 until 1913. He was called the dean of the legal profession in Montana and had been a judge advocate for the Montana Department of the U.S. Spanish American War Veterans. He was a life member of the Montana Trial Lawyers Association and a member of the Missoula Chamber of Commerce, Elks Hellgate Lodge No. 383 and a Golden Age Eagle. He was the last charter member of the Missoula council of the Knights of Columbus and served as grand knight in 1914. E.C. was called "Leather Mulroney" as a young man and "Mr. Mul" or "E.C." in later years. He was an avid sports fan, active in his younger years in sulky racing, baseball and golf and attended many World Series in later years. (Biography taken from findagrave.com)
