Biographical / Historical
The Golden Treasure Mining and Milling Company was incorporated on March 29, 1899 by Daniel Collins and John J. Barrett of Marysville, Montana, and George E. Sherman, M.F. Kennedy and others of Butte, to operate the Erie and other claims they owned near Marysville. All but 6 shares were held by Collins as treasury stock. Company headquarters were in Butte. M.F. Kennedy was chosen as first president. By the time of the first meeting of stockholders in June 1899, the stock had been distributed more widely with John J. Barrett and Daniel Collins retaining the majority. From 1903 to 1924 few formal stockholder meetings were held due to the lack of a quorum. Daniel Collins contracted to run a tunnel on the property. The work was paid for by selling treasury stock. Over the years little additional work was done. In 1916 the Company began the process of trying to dispose of the property. They contacted Barnes King Development Company which owned adjacent property but they were not interested. The twenty-year charter of the company expired in 1919, but the company continued to hold annual stockholder and directors meetings through 1924.
