Biographical / Historical

George Donat Hollecker was born on November 25, 1865, in Ottawa, Illinois. After graduating from high school and attending business school, he had financial interests in several general stores in Iowa and in Chicago. He worked for John V. Farwell & Co., a prominent Chicago merchant. In 1894 Hollecker moved to Glendive, Montana, and bought one-half interest in the general store of A.M. Coleman & Co. When Coleman died in 1895, Hollecker purchased the remaining interest and ran the business under his own name until his death. Hollecker was also a sheep, horse, and cattle rancher and owned ranches at Deer Creek and Red Water in Dawson County. He was actively involved with public education, serving for over 25 years on the Dawson County school board. He was also active in the Masonic Lodge in Glendive and the Algeria Temple of Mystic Shrine in Helena. Hollecker died on November 15, 1931.
