Biographical / Historical

The Nelson Coal Company of Great Falls, Montana, was formed on October 27, 1902, by A. Oscar Nelson of Great Falls and John G. Nelson and Samuel McClure of Stillwater, Minnesota. The company's original aims included the mining and selling of coal, the production of gas and electricity, and the development of water systems. The company mined coal at Sand Coulee, Montana, and sold it in Great Falls from 1902 until the early 1920s. Although the company continued its corporate existence until it voluntarily dissolved on May 7, 1954, it had ceased all operations by 1925.
