The Swaney Family Photograph collection compromises over 512 photographs, 40 duplicate images, 4 photo albums (that contains another 857 photos), 13 oversize photographs, 3 negatives, and 1 daguerreotype. The photographs compromise 3 generations of the Swaney family, and span from 1885 to 2015. The collection is spread between 3 boxes, 1 oversize box, and 1 oversize folder, with the daguerreotype, C2018-001, being separated to the Cased Images collection. The photos are categorized into 9 series, and 3 sub-series. Common themes of the photos include: Blackfoot Indians, horses – horseback riding, horse racing, horse shows, et cetera --, sports, military, foreign service, Montana, and family. The most common figures in the collection is Alexander Swaney, followed by his wife, Mildred Swaney, and then their parents, Andrew and Mary Swaney, and Ingvald and Tina Buckneberg, and finally Alexandra Swaney. Extended family members include Alexander’s siblings, Andrew’s siblings, nephews, and Alexandra’s wife, Lillian. Common places in the collection are: Montana, Scotland, China, and Arizona. Photographs of Montana and Unknown places were taken circa 1900 and are assumed to have been the work of Andrew Swaney.
