The Montana Nurses Association records are arranged in ten series: Biographical Material, Interoffice Correspondence, General Correspondence, Financial Records, Minutes, Organizational Records, Reports, Subject Files, Miscellany, and Clippings.

The Biographical Material series (1950-1967) consists of autobiographical sketches of members. The Interoffice Correspondence series (1942-1967) contains correspondence between the executive secretary, the board of directors, committee officers, and district leaders. The General Correspondence series (1944-1967) includes a small amount of miscellaneous correspondence.

The Financial Records series (1932-1984) is composed of financial statements. The Minutes series (1912-1970) consists of minutes of annual conventions and board of directors meetings. The Organizational Records series (1919-1977) includes agendas, membership lists, bylaws and constitutions, and an officers' manual. The Reports series (1936-1976) consists of reports of the board of directors, the president, and the executive secretary, plus an occupational analysis report and miscellaneous reports.

The Subject Files series (1912-1987) includes information on organizations and agencies such as the Montana Hospital Association and the Montana State Board of Nursing and on topics such as legislation and recruitment for the military. Subject files of MNA materials are arranged together under MNA and then alphabetically by folder title (i.e., all MNA committees are arranged together by committee name, all MNA sections are arranged together by section name, all MNA surveys are arranged together by title, etc.)

The collection also contains subgroups of records from the MNA Districts. The MNA District No. 1, Missoula, Subgroup includes General Correspondence, Financial Records, Minutes, Organizational Records, Reports, Subject Files, Miscellany, and Clippings. The General Correspondence series (1970-1976) contains a small amount of miscellaneous correspondence. The Financial Records series (1947-1976) consists of account ledgers, a journal, and miscellaneous financial records including financial statements, records from a Nursing Care Planning course, and a MNA payroll deduction ledger for nurses at Missoula General Hospital. The Minutes series (1932-1961) contains minutes of the district board of directors and of district meetings. The Organizational Records series (1931-1980) includes bylaws and constitution, and lists of members. The Reports series is composed of the secretary's annual report for 1968-1969. The Subject Files series (1956-1979) includes materials on collective bargaining at Missoula hospitals, the formation of the bargaining unit at the Missoula City-County Health Department, and the MNA subunit at St. Ignatius.

The MNA District No. 2, Butte, Subgroup includes Minutes (1929-1960) of the district board of directors and of district meetings; Organizational Records (1946, 1957), consisting of bylaws and lists of committees; and Clippings.

Materials from other districts are less numerous and have not been divided into separate subgroups. These materials are all together in the MNA Districts Subgroup. This subgroup includes bylaws (1929-1959)--arranged by district number--for Billings, Bozeman, Glasgow, Glendive, Great Falls, Hamilton, Havre, Helena, Kalispell, Lewistown, Livingston, Miles City, and Sidney; one Subject File from Billings re a car raffle (1947); and Clippings from Helena (1948, 1957, 1962) and from Miles City (1947).
