Content Description

2 black and white framed photographic prints. Views include: an image of John Henry Burfiend and Christopher Burfiend on a wagon loaded with barrels under a sign reading 'Burfiend Bros.', 'Beer Sold', and 'Brewery' note on verso states about 1880; however, image may date between 1880-1897 as the Burfiend's owned a mercantile 'Burfiend Bro.'s' between 1880-1893 and sometime between 1880-1897 John Henry took over the Dillon Brewery on a debt and ran it for awhile. An image of the Burfiend homestead with (L-R) Katherine Burfiend, Bertha Burfiend, John Henry Burfiend, Sophie Burfiend, and George Burfiend dating between 1888-1891. Stamp on verso of Burfiend homestead reads 'Silver Fox Studios in Eugene, Oregon.' It is unlikely that this company took the original image. No such company listed in Oregon or Montana during the peirod the image would have been taken. Newspaper articles date the company in the 1970s, they advertised restoration and copies of old photos.
